Gold River — Travel Field Notes and Language Practice
COLIN’S TRAVEL FIELD NOTES
Gold River: notice the place, prepare the conversation.
A first collection of Colin’s photos and footage, with a language mission you can practise anywhere.
A moment on the dock
The 35-second clip shows boats, a dock, and a gangway. Playback starts muted; use the player’s sound control if you want the original audio. This is travel footage, not a lesson demonstration.
Your dockside language mission
Use a role-play on dry land. Do not enter a working dock or board a vessel without permission.
- Goal: find the correct place to wait.
- Request: “Excuse me. Where should I wait, please?”
- Confirm: “Over here, by the sign?”
- Adapt: “Could you show me, please?”
Worked role-play
You: Excuse me. Where should I wait, please?
Staff: By the sign, over there.
You: By the sign? Thank you.
Staff: The waiting area has changed.
You: Could you show me, please?
A quieter stop

Choose one detail you can describe. Then practise asking: “Could you tell me about this place, please?” Listen for one answer and repeat it back to confirm.
On the road

Before you set out, practise asking: “Which way is the waterfront, please?” Confirm one landmark: “Past the trees, then left?”
Arriving at the waterfront
This short clip shows an open paved waterfront area, railings, and a forested hillside. It starts muted; the player offers the original audio.
Practice mission: describe one thing you can see, ask where to wait, and repeat the answer back. You can do this as a role-play from home.
Future Grifter’s Guide
More field notes, travel stories, and practical conversation missions are planned. This first collection is free; a complete Grifter’s Guide is not yet available.
